What to Expect from Therapy
The First Appointment
The first appointment will focus on getting to know each other. I will learn from you what has brought you to therapy, and what your hopes are in working with me. I welcome you to bring any questions you might have around the therapy process or around myself as a clinician.
My goal for our first session together is to make sure you are feeling, safe, comfortable and respected. Beginning therapy can be a challenging decision, but it is a brave step toward taking control of your life, and I will be there for you along the way.
Treatment Goals
Everyone who begins therapy has a reason, or a precipitating factor, which we will explore together. From this, we will create specific goals around what you are looking to get from your work with me. I sincerely believe everyone is unique and deserves an individual plan around their needs, their strengths and their culture. These goals are fluid and can easily be changed as you grow and evolve through our work together.
My style of therapy will help you identify triggers and patterns of thinking that might be interfering with your functioning.
Transitioning Out
Just like new beginnings, transitions can be difficult too. Good therapy will also address how to know when you are ready to transition out. I take a slow, phased approach, before ending our work together. We will continue to assess and evaluate your goals and progress throughout our sessions. Once you feel confident that your needs have been met, we can start to plan your transition process. I will always make sure you have resources to support you and information on who to call if things become difficult again.
